Mapping of burned areas on Penteli, Athens, mountain

After the 2007 fires on Penteli mountain, a 2008 Quickbird image with 0,60 m ground pixel size and 4 channels (R,G,B,NIF) has been acquired. Control points with dual frequency GPS were measured along the sides of the quickbird frame. DTM was created using archive aerial images of 1997. Using control point and the DTM the Quickbird has been orthorectified. Over that orthoimage, the NDVI has been calculated and used to replace the red channel, producing a much more vivid color image of vegetation regrowth and burned areas.
